Jinbar - Review

Solid Neighborhood Bar

After a few hours in Calgary Stampede’s Cowboys tent….I was ready to eat. Being picked up and brought to Jinbar for the first time was a nice surprise. Just the name of Jinbar I thought it would be a moody and dark bar that served food. However it was not what I expected, it was a bright and welcoming neighborhood bar.

To continue my inebriation, I had ordered My Bae. A cocktail that had Grey Goose with honey ginger, lime, soda, and Korean pear. This wasn’t the most exciting cocktail I had, it tasted pretty standard for a refreshing drink. For food, we started with the Ahi Tuna Crudo that had yuzu soy vinaigrette with tobiko and chive. This dish was above average. The vinaigrette really brought the flavor, but the portion size felt a bit small for the price. The Soy Brown Butter Wild Mushroom pizza was delicious. A heaty pizza with alfredo sauce, shallots, mozzarella, ricotta, and watercress. The crust was fluffy yet crisp and was impressive for a vegetarian pizza. After the pizza, the Korean Chili Glaze Boneless Fried Chicken was dope as hell. I was skeptical seeing that it wasn’t like a traditional type of fried chicken with bones but the boneless chicken was all thighs and was super moist and flavorful. The glaze was a bit on the sweeter side but I appreciated the dish. I’d definitely get it again.

Overall, I was impressed with Jinbar. They had a welcoming atmosphere and some great food despite being a tad expensive for the portions the taste of the dishes made up for it. I would definitely recommend you try it out and maybe get a more exciting cocktail than My Bae. I’ll be back to try out different drinks for sure.

Sal says: Just Try It (3.6/5)

Tracey says: Very solid flavors. Was excited for the boneless fried chicken but the Korean Chili Glaze tasted more like orange chicken. Would love to try the other options. Overall a good late-night spot to experience at least once
