Banh Mi Cali - Review

Banh not for Mi

Was pretty stoked to hear that a new banh mi shop was walking distance from my office. So when upon trying it I was pretty disappointed in the product.

I had both the Charbroiled Pork on a French Roll, and also the House Special Baguette. They both had the typical pickled carrots, cucumbers, cilantro and jalapenos for some spice. While the House Special had your familiar cold cuts. Flavor wise it was just not as good as other banh mi’s in the area. Was hoping that the carrots were pickled more? Or more cucumber? Felt a little lacking in veggies. The bread as well was not crusty, it was softer than I’d like. The charbroiled pork was where I was deeply saddened in how bad it was. The meat was so cold. Main reason was that I wanted a cold meat sandwich and a hot meat sandwich. I was neglected hot meat in my mouth. Might’ve been the saddest lunch in a while.

Seeing that the cost of these sandwiches were about $8 is also alarming. Inflation is real, we’ve been living in a $5 dollar vietnamese sub world for too long. Starting to sound like a grandpa where movie tickets were a nickel. Times are hard, but not bread here.
