Major Tom Bar - Review

Major…good cocktails

Visited Calgary and had to visit Major Tom according to some pals. Went for some late-night eats and was pretty satisfied.

First off, the view is great. It’s located on the 40th floor of Stephen Avenue Place and provides such good views of the city that it’s included in the cost of the food. After some great cocktails, actually many cocktails. We had ordered a few dishes.

Beef Tartare looked pretty and had good flavor but it didn’t excuse it for being a bit runny. Just a little too liquid for my taste. Brussel sprouts were a unique take with hazelnuts, chili & garlic and topped with parmesan. Tasty. We also had ordered a couple of sides. The fries with garlic aioli was exactly is exactly as advertised. To my dinner guest’s surprise, the garlic shrimp wasn’t like the ones she had in Hawaii. However, this is regrettably not the same style and this garlic shrimp is also exactly as advertised. A much better version of Red Lobster though. The main star of the show was the Slow Roasted Duck. This dish had caramelized cauliflower, plums, and pistachio. This duck was dope as hell. Perfectly rendered and ready for my belly. Will return and order this again for sure.

Despite such a stellar dish, it was apparent that Major Tom majors in cocktails and minors in food. This may still be a great reason to go and soak up the views.
