Kasey Ramen - Review

This is the one..

It’s been very stagnant in Edmonton’s ramen scene ever since Yuzen evaporated from it’s St. Albert’s location. There’s been some promise with other ramen spots but nothing really stood out to be truly special…until now.

Enter Kasey Ramen! They’ve been making ramen kits for over a year and now have been doing some pop-ups. I was able to grab a bowl of ramen at their “Under the Lemon Tree” pop-up.  The first ramen I had in Tokyo was a Lemon Chicken broth and it was amazing. My eyes were rolling into the back of my head. So understandably I was excited to try this pop-up.

I had ordered the Citrus Shoyu which had shoyu tare, chicken & fish double soup, pork belly, chashu, chicken chashu, citrus pulp, aroma oil, negi, nori. This bowl was packed with good stuff and all the meats you would want. The first thing I noticed when I had the bowl in front of me was the smell of it. It was so aromatic, almost a bit floral but the noticeable scent of soy broth. It was such an interesting quality I haven’t noticed since Japan. I then started to devour this ramen and wow, it was exquisite. Every piece of meat was cooked perfectly. The egg was a perfect texture with a slightly liquid yolk. The noodles were a bit firm for my liking but that’s fine, it was still quality. This bowl of ramen was simply delicious and should be regarded as the best bowl in Edmonton.

We had also ordered the Chshu Donburi and it was a nice little appetizer before the ramen. Perfectly cooked pork belly.

I’m now waiting for Kasey Ramen to get its own permanent location. It’s only going to get more popular with more popups. The one we went to was packed and I can’t wait to go back.
