Where the Buffalo Roam Saloon - Review

Western feeling

Been to Canmore a million times now but feels like I always just stay in and order Rocket PIe. It’s great pizza. However, venturing into downtown Canmore there are some gems. Where the Buffalo Roam Saloon was a nice and easy spot to decide on and happy we went.

There's lots of outdoor seating here but I feel like indoors feels intimate. The dishes are cute like the ones you’d be served at grandma and grandpa's house. The interiors feel saloony with the wood accents yet a bit more upscale and cozy. The tables are adorned with tile and add for some great food pics.

K let’s get to the food, I wasn’t too hungry so I ordered the Drunken Calamari. A bit pricy for calamari at 22 but it hit the spot. Oceanwise Humbolt squid marinated in vodka sambal and topped with tobiko aioli, fresh cilantro, and fresh lemon. Yum.

My buddy got the Steak Frites which had a 7oz grilled AAA Alberta flat iron beef steak with house-cut fries with peppercorn sauce, rosemary, and bone marrow butter. The bone marrow butter really sold this dish. Steak was cooked well but those frites were meh. The frites need to be more bon.

This Saloon is definitely a spot to consider if you’re in a small group, it wasn’t too busy on a Friday night so there will be seats. I will probably come back for more dishes but for now, it’s a solid recommendation.

Sal says: Just Try it (3.4/5)

Jag says: It was ok. Steak was good. Fries were ok.
